Essentials of Antibacterial Therapy

This in-depth CE course is designed for nursing professionals involved in prescribing, administering, or monitoring antibacterial therapy. It provides a clinically focused, evidence-based foundation for the safe and effective use of antibiotics across a range of infectious disease presentations and healthcare settings.

Course content includes a review of key pharmacologic principles, mechanisms of action, spectrum of activity, and resistance patterns associated with major classes of antibiotics. Special attention is given to clinical decision-making in the selection and adjustment of antibacterial agents based on culture results, patient-specific factors, and antimicrobial stewardship guidelines. Common pitfalls such as overprescribing, inappropriate dosing, and the use of broad-spectrum agents without indication are also addressed.

Participants will examine real-world case studies to reinforce appropriate therapy selection, therapeutic monitoring, and recognition of adverse drug reactions. Emphasis is placed on interprofessional communication and patient education regarding antibiotic adherence, side effects, and resistance prevention.
