This 5-hour CE course is designed to support oncology nurses preparing for national certification exams, including the Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) credential. It offers a comprehensive review of essential oncology nursing principles, current treatment modalities, and evidence-based care strategies. The course aligns with the core content areas tested on certification exams and reinforces clinical competence in caring for patients with cancer across the disease continuum.
Participants will review cancer biology, pathophysiology, and diagnostic workups, as well as staging, grading, and prognostic indicators. Detailed modules cover various treatment modalities, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy. Emphasis is placed on the management of treatment-related side effects, symptom control, patient education, and psychosocial support.
Additional focus is given to nursing roles in palliative and end-of-life care, survivorship planning, and coordination of interdisciplinary services. Key safety protocols, such as chemotherapy handling and infection prevention, are reinforced to ensure best practices in oncology care.
Clinical scenarios, case-based learning, and knowledge checks are incorporated throughout the course to enhance understanding and promote application of concepts in real-world practice settings.
